Following the incident of slapping and verbal abuse between SP leaders at the Gorakhpur Press Club, Akhilesh Yadav has taken significant action. The relevant executive committees at the district, metropolitan, and state levels, including the frontal and state levels, have been dissolved.
Following the controversy surrounding the Samajwadi Party’s Gorakhpur press conference, party president Akhilesh Yadav has taken a major organizational decision. The SP has dissolved the Gorakhpur district and metropolitan units, as well as the executive committees of its frontal organizations, with immediate effect. This decision includes the district president and metropolitan president, as well as relevant officials and members.
In fact, on Saturday (October 3, 2026), during a press conference of the Samajwadi Party (SP) at the Gorakhpur Journalists’ Press Club, a dispute arose over seating arrangements. As the situation escalated, abuse and physical violence ensued. It is alleged that Kamlesh Singh, son of Anshuman Singh, a ticket aspirant for the Gorakhpur Rural Assembly seat, slapped the party’s former district president, Nagina Sahni. A video of the incident also surfaced.
All major units were disbanded the next day.
Following the incident, the party leadership took action against the Gorakhpur organization. According to the directive, the district executive, including the district president, the metropolitan executive, including the metropolitan president, and the district presidents and metropolitan presidents of the frontal organizations, including their office bearers and members, have been dissolved with immediate effect.
State level units related to Gorakhpur were also dissolved.
The party order also calls for the immediate dissolution of the SP’s state executive committee associated with Gorakhpur and the state executive committees of all frontal organizations, including officials and members. This action is not limited to the district organization alone.
After the controversy, action was also taken against Anshuman Singh.
Following the Press Club incident, reports emerged that Anshuman Singh had also been expelled from the party. Both sides have leveled different allegations regarding the dispute. Nagina Sahni alleged assault and threats, while Anshuman Singh described the entire incident as an attempt to tarnish his image.
