Piyush Goyal on US Tariffs: Piyush Goyal has hit back at Rahul Gandhi’s tariff statement. He said that India now gives priority to national interests and does not bow down to any pressure.
Rahul Gandhi Piyush Goyal Clash: Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has strongly countered the statement made by Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi regarding tariff between India and America. He said that India now does not negotiate under the pressure of any deadline, but keeping its national interests in mind.
Piyush Goyal hit back
Piyush Goyal hit back at Rahul Gandhi’s statement, saying, “National interests are paramount for us. Today India is full of confidence, we can talk to any country in the world on equal terms. This is no longer the India that was under the rule of UPA, when compromises were begged for.”
The Union Minister criticised Rahul Gandhi and said that now no one takes him seriously. He further said, “Rahul Gandhi, his colleagues and the Congress party constantly spread negativity, so the people of the country have rejected them time and again. Till date, they have not given any positive agenda for the development of the country.”
What did Rahul Gandhi say?
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi wrote on social media platform X, “No matter how much Piyush Goyal may boast, write down what I say, Modi will quietly bow down to Trump’s tariff deadline.” US President Donald Trump had warned India of imposing additional tariffs on some goods. The opposition is constantly raising questions about the central government’s response on this issue.
The deadline is ending on 9 July
India has made it clear that it will not enter into a trade agreement under any kind of external pressure. This tough stand has come at a time when US President Donald Trump had imposed retaliatory tariffs on about 100 countries, including 26% duty on India. Although later the US temporarily postponed these tariffs for 90 days, but this relief period is now ending on July 9. Due to this, discussions about a possible trade agreement between the two countries have again intensified.
