Do not pay attention to rumours! Election Commission said- No change was made in the process of updating voter list in Bihar

Bihar SIR Election Commission: Controversy has increased regarding the voter list update in Bihar. The Election Commission has said that the process started on 24 June is correct and submission of documents is mandatory.

Bihar SIR Election Commission: The initial phase of SIR (Special Intensive Revision- SIR) has been successfully completed in Bihar. The Election Commission has informed that the work of printing and distribution of counting forms is almost complete. Along with this, it has also been clarified that no changes have been made in the SIR, as was being rumored by some people.

So far, 1.69 crore or 21.46% census forms have been collected, out of which 7.25% forms have also been uploaded on the ECINET portal. Administrative officials said that the work is progressing within the stipulated time frame and the survey is being executed with complete transparency.

The process of updating the voter list started from June 24.

The Election Commission had ordered to update the voter list in Bihar from June 24, 2025. Its purpose is to remove ineligible names from the voter list and keep only the right voters in the list. This process has been started simultaneously across the state.

The last date for submission of documents is July 25.

The Election Commission has said that all eligible voters will have to submit their necessary documents by July 25, 2025. However, those who will not be able to submit the documents by this date will also get a chance to submit the documents during the period of claims and objections.

The Election Commission’s clarification on the rumour spread on social media: It

was written in an advertisement that ‘Now you just have to fill the form, no need to submit documents’, which created confusion on social media. On this, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Bihar Congress chief Rajesh Kumar alleged that this is a conspiracy to snatch the right to vote of Dalits and the deprived. The Election Commission has clarified that this statement is misleading and wrong and has appealed to the people not to believe anything without official information.

Opposition’s questions and meeting with Election Commission:

Many opposition leaders including Tejashwi Yadav met the Election Commission in New Delhi and Patna and asked why the voter list is being updated only in Bihar and not all over the country? At the same time, the NDA accused the opposition of looking for an excuse for its defeat.

CEO said – SIR is completely based on the instructions of the Commission

Bihar Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said on Sunday that SIR is running as per the order of the Election Commission dated June 24. The draft voter list which will be released on August 1, 2025 will contain the names of only those who have submitted the nomination form and documents on time.
