About 70 percent of women have the problem of nausea or vomiting in the initial months of pregnancy. This happens due to hormonal changes, especially when hormones like estrogen increase rapidly. Then this starts happening. These hormones prepare the body for pregnancy, but their sudden increase affects the digestive system, which causes nausea.
Don’t eat heavy meals all at once
Eating a full stomach can increase nausea. Eat small meals 5 times a day. As soon as you wake up in the morning, eat something light and dry like biscuits.
Avoid spicy and fried foods
Food with oil and spices can increase acidity and gas in the stomach. Eat boiled or light food, like moong dal, khichdi or soup.
Eat ginger and lemon
Both these home remedies are very effective in treating nausea. Drink ginger tea or lukewarm water with a few drops of lemon.
Get enough rest and sleep
Fatigue can also increase nausea. Therefore, 7 hours of sleep and a little rest during the day is essential.
When to contact a doctor?
If nausea becomes so severe that it becomes difficult to eat or drink, or you feel dehydrated, contact your doctor immediately. This could be a condition called hyperemesis gravidarum which requires treatment.
