British Army Gurkha Regiment: In protest against the Agniveer scheme, Nepal has stopped recruiting Gurkha youth in the Indian Army. The British Army has announced the formation of a new Gurkha regiment.
England seems to be taking advantage of the stoppage of recruitment of Gurkha soldiers from Nepal in the Indian Army. The British Army has announced the formation of a new Gurkha regiment for the Gurkha community of Nepali origin. Although the British Army already has a Gurkha regiment, a new artillery regiment is being formed after the recruitment has been stopped in India.
Recruitment of Gorkha youth in Indian Army stopped
In protest against the Agniveer Yojana, Nepal has stopped recruiting Gorkha youth in the Indian Army. There are seven (07) regiments of the Gorkha community in the Indian Army. Only Gorkha youth of Nepal and Indian origin can be recruited in these, but now only Gorkha youth of Indian origin are participating in the regiment.
The rules changed after the Agniveer scheme
In the year 2022, the recruitment of youth in the Indian Army was completely changed. Under the new process, the Agnipath scheme has now been implemented in the Indian Army. In such a situation, soldiers have to serve as Agniveer in the army for the first four (04) years. After four years of service, Agniveers will be scrutinized and only 25 percent of them will be selected to become soldiers. The rest of the Agniveers will be given a chance to leave the army and do other services or business like a common citizen.
There are 40 thousand Gorkha soldiers in the Indian Army
The Nepal government has opposed the Agneepath scheme of the Indian Army. After independence (1947), the process of recruitment of Gorkha youth of Nepal in the Indian Army continued. At present, the Indian Army has 07 different regiments of Gorkha soldiers (39 battalions). There are about 40 thousand Gorkha soldiers in them. About 60 percent of them are soldiers of Nepal origin, but for the last three years, the recruitment of Gorkha soldiers of Nepal has almost stopped.
Britain announced the formation of a new Gurkha regiment
The British Army has announced the formation of a new Gorkha regiment of artillery. The King of England has given his permission for this. In such a situation, it will be known as King’s Gorkha Artillery (KGA).
In the next four years, about 400 soldiers are expected to be recruited in the KGA regiment of England. The badge of KGA shows two khukris of Nepal. Along with this, an artillery gun is also depicted.
