Russian officials said on Sunday (3 August 2025) that Ukraine attacked the oil depot in Sochi, a resort on the Black Sea in Russia, with a drone.

Huge fire breaks out in oil depot

 

Krasnodar region governor Veniamin Kondratyev said that the debris of the drone caused a massive fire in the fuel tank. More than 127 firefighters are engaged in extinguishing the fire. Russia has suspended all its flights at the airport near Sochi. The video of the incident is going viral on social media, in which a huge cloud of smoke can be seen rising from above the oil depot. According to Russian officials, four people have died in this attack.

93 Ukrainian drones shot down – Russia

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, its air defense system shot down 93 Ukrainian drones. Sochi, where this attack took place, is 400 km from the Ukrainian border. Compared to other cities of Russia, it is considered difficult for Ukraine to attack here. According to local officials, two people were killed in Ukrainian drone attacks in this region at the end of last month.

This week both countries carried out deadly attacks on each other

Russia is also continuously attacking Ukraine with missiles and drones. The Ukrainian Air Force said on Sunday (3 August 2025), “Russia fired 76 attack drones and seven missiles on Ukraine overnight. Russia attacked 8 places across Ukraine. Ukraine’s air defense system destroyed 60 drones and one missile.”

According to Ukrainian officials, Russia has now started intensified attacks. Ukrainian officials said that on Thursday (31 July 2025) Russia fired more than 300 drones and eight cruise missiles, which was the deadliest attack so far. 31 people were killed in this attack.
