Bihar SIR: According to the Election Commission, the EPIC number that Tejashwi Yadav is talking about has not been officially issued. Earlier, the ECI had advised him to follow the legal process.
Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar Tejashwi Yadav’s troubles may increase. He has claimed that his name is not in the draft voter list of Bihar. According to Tejashwi, the EPIC number (RAB2916120) that he shared is not in the records. Taking cognizance of this, the Election Commission has issued a notice to Tejashwi Yadav and sought details of EPIC number RAB2916120 so that it can be investigated.
Election Commission revealed Tejashwi’s EPIC number
In the notice sent to Tejashwi Yadav, the Election Commission said, “In the press conference held on August 2, 2024, it was told by you that your name is not in the draft voter list. On investigation, it was found that your name is mentioned at serial number 416 of polling station number 204 (Library Building of Bihar Animal Science University), whose EPIC number is RAB0456228.”
Election Commission sought answer on two voter ID cards
The Election Commission said, “In the press conference, you (Tejashwi Yadav) said that your EPIC number is RAB2916120. Investigation revealed that no such EPIC number has been issued by the Election Commission.” The Election Commission has asked Tejashwi Yadav to provide full details of EPIC number RAB2916120 (including voter ID card) so that this matter can be investigated.
On Saturday, the Election Commission rejected Tejashwi Yadav’s claims and said that his name is at serial number 416 in the relevant part of the draft voter list. The Election Commission had said that if he still has any complaint, he should follow the prescribed legal process.
Tejashwi Yadav’s claim during the press conference
Tejashwi Yadav connected his phone to a big screen during the press conference and tried to find his EPIC number, but no record was found. To this he said, “I myself am not registered as a voter. This makes me ineligible to contest elections. Perhaps I will not be considered a citizen and I will also be deprived of the right to live in this house.” He claimed that when the booth level officer came to him with the counting form, he did not give him any receipt.
