You can purchase tickets at 11 Kolkata Metro stations by scanning a QR code without downloading the app. Learn about the list of stations and how to book with Paytm.
The metro is the most reliable mode of transport for pandal hopping in Kolkata during Durga Puja, but long queues at train stations often spoil the fun of the festival. In response to the massive crowds, the Kolkata Metro has provided significant relief to commuters.
Now, instead of waiting in line for tokens or smart cards, passengers can book tickets by scanning QR codes displayed at the station directly on their mobile phones. Best of all, there’s no need to install a separate app on their phones.

If you’ve arrived at the station and the ticket counter is crowded, scan the official QR sticker with your phone’s camera. The link will open and you’ll see a “Buy QR Ticket” option. Here, you’ll need to enter the station name, passenger number, and your mobile number. After completing the online payment, you’ll be presented with a “Download Ticket PDF” option, where you can save your digital ticket to your phone.
Keep in mind that the QR code on the wall or pillar is only for opening the booking page; it is not a ticket. Before proceeding to the entry gate (AFC Gate), ensure that the digital QR code received after payment has been downloaded to your mobile phone. Showing it to the scanner at the gate will open the door.
Keep your tickets ready with Paytm before reaching the station.
If you want your ticket in your pocket before you even step down the station stairs, Paytm can do it in a jiffy. Open the app, simply type ‘Metro’ in the search bar, and select the ‘Metro QR Ticket’ option under ‘Kolkata Metro.’ Select your starting and ending stations and complete the payment.
Your QR ticket will appear in the ‘View Ticket’ section upon payment. The Kolkata Metro’s official ‘Aamar Kolkata Metro’ app also offers this feature, eliminating the need for a physical ticket for passengers.
At which stations will this special facility be available?
Initially, the service has been launched at 11 of the city’s busiest stations. These include Esplanade, Dum Dum, Dakshineswar, Rabindra Sarobar, Mahanayak Uttam Kumar, Kalighat, Howrah, Sealdah, Shobhabazar-Sutanuti, Salt Lake Sector V, and Dum Dum Cantonment. The Metro administration says that based on passenger experience during the Puja season, the service will soon be expanded to all other stations.
